Agra
The city of Taj Mahal a trifle cleaner and greener if you have been here
before. Agra - the name itself recalls the picture of Taj Mahal, a spectacular
monument of love built of white marble. Agra city is not only a reputed tourist
destination but also a shopper's paradise. It offers breathtakingly beautiful
handcrafted items that are made of pure leather. Agra is also famous for the
replicas of Taj Mahal. Furthermore, it also offers excursions to Fatehpur Sikri,

Sightseeing at Agra
Taj Mahal :
One of the Seven Wonders of the World built by Emperor Shahjahan.
Renowned for its spectacular architecture and aesthetic beauty, the Taj Mahal is
also a symbol of enduring love, built by Shah Jehan to house the grave of his
beloved wife, Queen Mumtaz Mahal, who died following the birth of their 14th
child.
Agra Fort :
Built by Emperor Akbar, the Maze of Courtyards, Mosques and Private
Chambers of the Fort Echoes the story of the Mughal Empire.
Sikandra :
The Tomb of Emperor is Akbar the Great. Built in Red Sandstone inland
with Marble. It is a striking sight.
Fatehpur Sikri :
The Deserted City of Emperor Akbar literally means 'The City of
Victory'.

Reaching Agra
Air : Well connected to Delhi, Khajuraho, Varanasi by air.
Rail : The railhead at Agra is well linked to Delhi, Mumbai, Jodhpur, Gwalior,
Jhansi, Bhopal, Varanasi, Ahmedabad, Amritsar, Cochin, Jaipur, Kathgodam, Patna,
Vishakapatnam, Madras, Trivandrum, Lucknow, Indore.
Road : Idgah bus stand is the main bus stand of Agra, from where one can catch
buses for Delhi, Jaipur, Mathura, Fatehpur-Sikri, etc. Buses for Mathura also
leave from Agra Fort bus stand.

Shopping in Agra -
The local artisans are also good at making leather chappals (sandals), purses,
bags, decorative items and leather products. Agra is also famous for the Zari
and embroidery work, stone inlay work and durries. The main shopping areas
include the Taj Mahal complex, Kinari Bazaar, Raja Mandi, Sadar Bazaar. The
Gangotri at Taj Mahal Complex and the U.P Handlooms, UPICA at the Sanjay place
are two UP Government emporiums.

Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri is now a World Heritage site. The royal city at Fatehpur Sikri,
situated 26 miles west of Agra, was built at the orders of the Mughal Emperor
Akbar. Palace of Five Storeys, and the Buland Darwaza, a massive gate which
provides entrance to the complex, it is numbered among the finest specimens of
Mughal architecture. It is even arguable that Fatehpur Sikri is the greatest
accomplishment of Mughal architecture, surpassed only in reputation.
Construction of the new ceremonial capital, with its elaborate palaces, formal
courtyards, reflecting pools, harems, tombs and a great mosque, commenced in
1571. Shortly after the work was completed fifteen years later, it was realised
that there was a lack of an adequate water supply and the pristine complex was
abandoned.

Reaching Fatehpur Sikri
Fatehpur Sikri is a 25 miles (40km) west of Agra, on the way to Jaipur

Delhi.

Road : Best way is to reach Agra which is well connected by national highways.

Shopping in Fatehpur Sikri :
This deserted city was the capital of the Moghul Empire between 1570 and 1586.
Today, Fatehpur Sikri is a ghost city, its architecture is in a perfect state of
preservation, and below the fort are the markets of the Old City.
Ranikhet
The hill station, idyllic in its charm, Ranikhet with its majestic pine trees,
is 59.5 kilometres from Nainital.
According to legend, a queen, in the course of a journey came here and was so
enchanted by it's beauty that she settled down here.
It is an ideal holiday spot for nature lovers, and its main attractions, apart
from its natural beauty, are a golf course, the orchards of Chaubatia and the
Jhoola Devi Temple.

Place Of Interest -
Chaubattia :
Chaubattia(20) Kms is a garden spot commanding a fascinating view
of the Himalayas. The chief attractions of the place is the Government Apple

Baludham :
This small artificial lake is little less than 3 kms from Chaubattia
(Briddle Road).
Upat Kalika :
Upat Kalika (4 Kms) has one of the best mountain golf courses (9
Holes) in the country.
Hairakhan Ashram :
Hairakhan Ashram (12 Kms) is the famous temple of Baba
Hairkhan. It commands a panoramic view of the extensive Himalayas. The ambience
is definitely religious.
